Merry Christmas, everyone! Today, I’m excited to share one of my family’s favorite holiday recipes—our delicious chewy and gooey gingerbread cookies. They’re a classic treat, and baking them always reminds me of the incredible bakers in my family.
When I cook, I just add things in here and there where I feel like it. But baking? Baking is a science, and my great grammas, grammas and mom have figured out how to get these cookies down pat. I love this recipe because there aren’t a bunch of different measurements. It’s easy and straightforward. That’s my kind of baking!
Family-Favorite Gingerbread Cookie Recipe
Here’s the recipe that’s been passed down through generations in my family:
1 C. Sugar
1 C. Sorghum
1 C. Shortening
1 C. sour Milk (regular is fine)
5 C. flour
1 tsp. Ginger
1 tsp. Cinnamon
1 tsp. Soda
1 tsp. Baking power
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350°F.
Mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl until well combined.
Roll the dough into small balls, then roll each ball in sugar.
Place the balls on a baking sheet and press them flat with a fork.
Bake for 8-10 minutes. Be careful not to overbake—they’re best when they stay soft and chewy!
Let the cookies cool, then enjoy!
A Warm Christmas Wish from My Family to Yours

Praying you and your family have a wonderful Christmas celebrating the birth of our Lord and Savior.
