Decorating Your Coop for Christmas

Updated: Oct 3

Annie with her Christmas decorated coop and chickens

Happy December, everyone! I hope your Thanksgiving was filled with everything you love. Around here, we’ve already started decorating, and this year, I decided to make it a bit festive for our flock as well. I’m excited to show you two different ways I decorated our chicken coop—one budget-friendly option that cost under $10, and another that’s a bit more extravagant.

Simple Christmas Coop Decorations for Under $10

For a simple and affordable Christmas coop makeover, I headed to our local Dollar Tree and picked up some garland, stockings, and two wreaths. All of this cost just about $7, and I was happy with the festive look it gave our flock’s home! It was easy to do, and I stayed under budget—perfect for a no-fuss decoration. Since we don’t have electricity in the coop, I skipped adding lights, but the garland and wreaths still made it look cheerful!

See my $7 coop setup below.

Adding a Little Extra Festive Fun

Even though the $7 version looked great, I couldn’t resist adding a bit more! While decorating the house, I decided to spruce up the coop too. It’s something I always do—start small, and then keep adding to what’s already perfectly fine! My husband, bless him, gets roped into my grand ideas, but he’s mostly on board. Haha!

To upgrade the coop, we added big beautiful planters that my husband picked up from our local Runnings store. These were more expensive, but they look gorgeous! I may even add some fairy lights to them later. I also bought new wreaths for just under $20. This version cost more than the first, but since the faux wreaths and garland can be reused year after year, I think it’s a good investment.

Check out my updated coop below.

Get Your Chickens Involved!

Want to make the decorating process even more fun? Invite your chickens to help! Happy and Roxanne oversaw our decorating, and I like to think they approved (even though, let’s be real—they probably didn’t care one bit!). It’s always fun to have them around while sprucing up their home.

Christmas Decorations for Your Coop: Big or Small, it’s All Good!

At the end of the day, Christmas decorating looks different for everyone. You can add a few small touches or go all out—either way, it’s perfect! Just be sure to avoid anything that could harm your chickens if they peck at it. Other than that, feel free to decorate to your heart’s content!

Until next time,
