The Cinnamon Queen chicken breed is a popular choice among backyard chicken keepers. Known for their friendly temperament and incredible egg-laying abilities, these birds are a great addition to any flock.
While I don’t currently have any Cinnamon Queens, they’re definitely on my list! I had a couple of them as chicks a few years ago, but sadly, I lost them when the heater in our brooder died in the middle of the night. It was heartbreaking.
History of the Cinnamon Queen Chicken
The Cinnamon Queen is a relatively new breed, developed right here in the United States for one main purpose—amazing egg production! This hybrid comes from crossing Rhode Island Red roosters with Silver Laced Wyandotte or Rhode Island White hens.
What makes them extra special is that they’re sex-link chickens, meaning you can tell if they’re male or female just by their color when they hatch. Males are white, and females have that gorgeous rich red color.
Since Cinnamon Queens are hybrids, they’re not officially recognized by the American Poultry Association (APA). The APA doesn’t recognize hybrid breeds, so there are no official standards for these beauties—but that doesn’t make them any less amazing!
Characteristics of the Cinnamon Queen Chicken
Cinnamon Queens are medium-sized birds, typically weighing between 5 to 7 pounds when fully grown. They’re known for being tough and adaptable to warm or cold climates, making them a great choice whether you’ve got a backyard setup or a larger farm. Whether they’re free-ranging or hanging out in a run, these chickens adjust easily to whatever space you have.
With their bright orange and brown feathers and elegant tails, these hens are truly stunning. Their yellow legs and red combs just add to their charm, making them a beautiful addition to any flock.
Taking care of Cinnamon Queens is pretty straightforward. Just give them enough space, a balanced diet and plenty of fresh water, and they’ll stay happy, healthy and keep laying those lovely eggs!

Personality and Temperament
One of the things I love most about the Cinnamon Queen is their sweet, calm and social nature. They tend to get along well with both their keepers and other chickens. However, keep in mind that, just like people, there can always be exceptions! Haha! I’ve had chickens that were supposed to be the sweetest and cuddliest, but they only tolerate me at best. I always tell people that a chicken’s personality really depends on how much time you spend with them out in the coop!
Impressive Egg-Laying Abilities
One of the main reasons people are drawn to the Cinnamon Queen is their egg production. They are egg-laying superstars! These birds can lay around 250 to 300 medium to large brown eggs per year. If you’re in it for the eggs, the Cinnamon Queen is an excellent breed to consider. And trust me, you’ll fall in love with their personalities just as much as their productivity!

Future Flock Additions
The Cinnamon Queen is near the top of my list of breeds I’d like to add to our flock. How about you? Do you have a list of breeds you’re dreaming of adding?
Until next time,
